Another type of injectable filler, Sculptra® is a synthetic injectable material known as "poly-L-lactic acid" that restores and/or corrects the signs of facial fat loss which can result in sunken cheeks, indentations, and hollow eyes. It provides a gradual and significant increase in facial volume, improving the appearance of folds and sunken areas.
Our Technique
Sculptra® treatments are done in the office under local anesthesia. Dr. Hunsicker injects Sculptra® below the surface of the skin in the area of fat loss with a very fine needle. At your first treatment visit, it may appear that Sculptra® worked immediately because of swelling from the injections and the water used to dilute Sculptra®. In a few days, when the swelling goes down and the water is absorbed by your body, you may look as you did before your treatment. Sculptra® will then gradually work to correct the depression in your skin. Six weeks after your first treatment Dr. Hunsicker will evaluate the results to see if you need more Sculptra® injections. Most patients have significant results with 1-3 treatments. Results can last as long as two years.
Immediately following treatment patients may experience redness, swelling, pain, or bruising that dissipate quickly with Tylenol, elevation and ice packs. You should massage the treated area (a few times each day) for several days after the treatment session and avoid excessive sun and UV lamp exposure until any initial swelling and redness has resolved, usually within a couple of days. Most patients can return to work immediately.
As with any cosmetic procedure, complications from Sculptra®, although rare, do exist. The specific risks, as well as suitability, for any given individual cannot be determined until the time of consultation. While we hope this information is helpful, it can not substitute for a consultation. We invite you to contact us at 720-283-2500 or online to schedule a consultation with Dr. Hunsicker. Together, you can determine if you are a good candidate for Sculptra® as well as specific risks and complications that may occur.
